I have been extremely busy and unnecessarily tired. This is why I haven't updated in a while. I would have posted as soon as I finished Splintered but for some reason the WiFi at my house sucks right now. I finished Splintered on Sunday/Monday. It's now Thursday. Long time span. I started another book, Whispers at Moonrise by C.C. Hunter, the fourth in the Shadow Falls series. Back to Splintered. I found that at the beginning it was a little jumbled, I'm not going to lie. I didn't understand everything at first. But then again, this is a strange and mind boggling re-telling of Alice in Wonderland. It's not supposed to always make a ton of sense. Our characters Jeb, Morpheus, and Alyssa, have showed to be in constant battle throughout the entirety of the book. You as the reader understand right away that Alyssa has a thing for Jeb and it's not just some little thing either. What she feels for him is huge, if it wasn't she wouldn't have reacted to poorly to his dating her arch-nemesis. Morpheus is her childhood friend and he's described as devastatingly handsome. And believe me when I say I pictured him that way too. At first, you see him as a helper, then as a conniving man, only using Alyssa to help him escape his Deathspeak, and then finally as a man who loves Alyssa and would do anything for her. In the end he's shown capable of self-less love. I won't say more only because it might ruin everything, but I will say this, Alyssa is supposed to be a descendant of Alice Liddell, but is she really?
Now onto the next book! Whispers at Moonrise has made me so happy and yet sad at the same time. Lucas is being the biggest prick ever. Sure, he has everything with the Were Council to deal with, but that doesn't mean you shut out the person you love. He's holding her to a double standard too. Kylie's just found out that she's a chameleon. Or as the book explains, it's a type of supernatural that retains the dominant DNA of all of their ancestors, and can change into whatever species suits their needs. At first nobody is believing about her being a chameleon, or a lizard, but things start to turn around. A little. She's finally able to meet her grandfather and her great-aunt and finds that they are like her. But.....they want her to go live with them. It's not safe for her to be living among the normal supernaturals, as odd as that sounds. Those that lived alone, didn't make it and eventually were cast out as freaks. But, to add to add to her freaky-ness, she's also a protector and can speak with ghosts. Nice life, isn't it? I am almost finished with the book, and because of that I'm not going to change the cover picture, because I would just have to change it by tonight again. Big pain in the cheeks.
On a different note, my local library is having a book sale next week and I'm extremely excited to go. 50 cents for a paperback and $1.00 for hardcover. I'm happy :)
I'll try and write again soon. Hopefully tonight, but I'm not making any promises.
Until next time,
The Book Nerd
